WCMA in partnership with the Vincent Price Art Museum: Awarded $100,000 grant from The Paper Project

The Paper Project: Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century is an initiative begun in 2018 to strengthen curatorial practice in the graphic arts field internationally.

Teddy Sandoval art

A Paper Project grant will support the first museum retrospective dedicated to Teddy Sandoval, a central figure in intersecting queer and Chicanx artistic circles in Los Angeles. The exhibition and its catalogue will assemble three decades of Sandoval’s output, focusing on his printmaking, drawing, collage, xerography, and mail art, punctuated by works from contemporaneous queer and feminist Latinx and Latin American artists. Working in collaboration with exhibition co-curator C. Ondine Chavoya, guest co-curator David Evans Frantz will contribute new research on Sandoval’s signature stylistic invention in printing and drawing as well as the artist’s place within Southern California’s robust printmaking legacy.
